Doe Avedon Dead: Model, Actress and 'Funny Face' Inspiration Dies at 86
When the story of Dorcas Nowell -- and her rise from the New York office manager within the nineteen forties to some famous fashion model and celebrity -- seems like a Hollywood production, like it really was: Dorcas, a component-time model, caught the attention of famous fashion digital photographer Richard Avedon, transformed her title to Doe Avedon after marriage, as well as their whirlwind romance ended up being the foundation of 'Funny Face,' the 1957 film with Katherine Hepburn and Fred Astaire. Doe Avedon died on Sunday at age 86, following complications from pneumonia. Doe and Richard were only married for 5 years, but which was sufficient time on her to change into an actress on stage, film and tv. Additionally to some recurring role within the nineteen fifties television series 'Big Town,' Avedon also made an appearance in 'The High and also the Mighty' opposite John Wayne, in addition to 'Love Streams' for director John Cassavetes. For 'Funny Face,' her friend Leonard Gershe authored the 1957 film musical, which told the storyline of the famous fashion digital photographer named Dick Avery (Astaire), who falls deeply in love with a Greenwich Village bookshop salesgirl (Hepburn) and turns her right into a world-famous fashion model. (Before meeting Richard, Doe works at work jobs since it gave her additional time to see.) Directed by Stanley Donen ('Singin' within the Rain'), 'Funny Face' was really also modified from Gershe's less effective musical, 'Wedding Alarms.' Even today, it possibly remains most legendary for the scene where Katherine Hepburn dances, that was later co-elected for any Gap commercial in 2006. Fox mulling second year of 'Terra Nova'
Jason OMara stars in Fox drama Terra Nova, which wrapped its first season Monday and awaits word around the possible soph season.
The conclusion in the first season of "Terra Nova" leaves a cliffhanger that has nothing associated with the plot: Will Fox renew the drama series?"Nova" ended its run Monday in typically solid but unimpressive fashion, calculating a few.2 rating/6 participate grownups and 7.2 million audiences overall. That put it above ABC and NBC but slightly below its season average (2.6 demo rating and 7.8 million).People are respectable amounts while not always sufficient due to the pricey production costs behind the dino spectacle as well as the pedigree of executive producers Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin. last century Fox Television might be the studio behind the 13-episode run, which was never designed to earn a back-nine order. One indication of "Terra Nova" landing another 13 episodes is if Fox can get the options round the skein's lead stars. But even if that happens before year's finish, it doesn't a great deal guarantee a renewal since it does buy Fox more hours to decide that could be made as late since the finish from the month of the month of january, which appears the deadline to obtain the elaborate production functioning.Ratings are definately not really the only aspect in Fox's decision on "Nova." Furthermore to distribution sales in overseas areas and DVD or digital revenues, the network may even take into account that "Nova" boasts one of the bigger percentage increases among dramas in "live-plus-seven" Dvr data -- in the 2.6 with a 3.7 in 18-49.This isn't really the only drama whose fate will probably be mulled by Fox professionals inside the holidays, just like a decision is predicted soon around the possible ninth season for Universal Television's "House."Related: Ratings: Modest finish for 'Terra Nova' Contact Andrew Wallenstein at andrew.wallenstein@variety.com

Jeremy Irvine, 'War Horse' Star, round the Guilt of Overnight Fame
Jeremy Irvine will be a tree. Before landing charge role in Steven Spielberg's Oscar fare 'War Equine,' Irvine was playing a tree in the play that featured not merely one word of dialogue. Now Irvine continues to be recognized all the time, which -- while he confesses -- freaks him out. Considering that 'War Horse' hasn't even been released yet, that part of his job is not prone to alter soon. In 'War Equine,' Irvine plays Albert Narracott, the closest factor this film must a principal character that doesn't eat hay. Albert boosts a young equine named Joey who's eventually provided by Albert's father (Peter Mullan) for the military for use through the First World War -- delivering Joey on numerous adventures that, once the fates cooperate, will culminate in the reunion with Albert. Before 'War Horse's' release on Christmas day, Irvine sitting lower with Moviefone to talk about his breakthrough role (if you don't count his role as "tree"), his concern with fame, and also the passion for 'Saving Private Ryan.' It's early every morning, exactly what are we doing here? I realize, right? I obtained in at two every morning yesterday. I'm filming 'Great Expectations' in England. When the casting notice showed up in this area for that part, I have to assume the word "serious" was utilized. No, totally. A Few Things I contained in Albert was an innocence for this type of extent it is the type of innocence we don't see nowadays. That is someone who's living in a really isolated part of England. You understand, he's only got one real friend which he only sees folks his community -- before everybody was uncovered to television, the net and mobile phones. There is a naïveté and innocence that you just do not get nowadays. Youngsters are uncovered to some lot. Therefore I required to uncover that. And that comes inadequacies in cynicism. Plus it takes a while to become accustomed to the earnestness, but eventually you must do. Also to do just about anything different might have been false to own Albert... Cracking wise? It cannot are actually consistent with the story plus it certainly wouldn't are actually consistent with the script. Within the finish throughout your day, my job could be to get familiar with the smoothness legitimate. Can you tell the different horses that carried out Joey apart? I have not a clue [laughs]. No, oddly, there has been more equine makeup artists than there has been people makeup artists. These horses stood a huge makeup process while using little white-colored place, so, with the finish, they did look exactly the same. But, yeah, you are able to tell. Which I was not inside a equine which i can not condition that i'm a sizable animal person ahead of time, therefore i had two several days to become in this particular stable and setting it up type of beaten into me. Did they have different temperaments? Are there occasions you'd think, oh, shit, here comes the mean equine? Oh, absolutely. However they were not mean, fundamental necessities most experienced film horses inside the word. You understand, they're incredible. And after trading this kind of very very long time together, you must do build real associations even though I used to be quite skeptical and type of, "There's not a way I'm really apt to be falling of those horses" -- It needed probably of a week. When you're making set, a equine isn't likely to do just about anything it doesn't might like to do. It's to might like to do what you're asking it to accomplish. And how that you just achieve that goal is actually getting rapport and becoming respect for each other, In my opinion. Which must be genuine. You can't fake that. There's almost a horror movie here, too: 'The Curse of Joey.' [Laughing] Yeah! Plenty of not excellent accomplishments happen to whomever has this equine. [Laughing] Yes. I guess not. No, you're absolutely right. But what's important is niagra is an occasion when there's difficulty that's difficult to interact with for people -- specifically in first world nations. It is therefore tough to interact with that type of difficulty and just what the equine leads to in people is a touch of humanity among difficulty without anyone's understanding of war as well as the terrible items that were happening. The equine kind of touches a number of these people in route which i suppose kind of brings the most from everyone. Can you think about the history of folks that had their first large burglary a Spielberg movie? Like, "Hey, Christian Bale, that switched out OK." [Laughs] Um ... well, the whole factor isn't real yet. I am unsure, I guess it'll sink in eventually. And surely not. Why you think that's? Because I used to be literally playing a tree in the stage show once i got the job. I'd no lines. There's no shame in playing a tree. Productions need trees. There's no shame whatsoever! Funny enough, I believed that was brilliant. I believed it was much like it got. But that is somewhat different to that particular, In my opinion. I am unsure, it seems in my opinion like sometimes The year progresses, "Am I Going To really deserve this?" To go to from right lower in the finish with this so quickly, you kind of feel a little guilty sometimes. You think that things can alter a lot more once the movie is released? I am unsure. That side of it is the only component that scares me, In my opinion. You might have training and advice concerning how to act, it's the other activities that maybe includes in a film similar to this. What specific part of that scares you? I'm speaking about, like a few minutes ago I went for just about any coffee and you'll find people outdoors who know who I am and I am unsure them. Being fair, people people outdoors know for several the entire cast of 'War Horse' is presently in this particular hotel. Yeah, no, sure. However, if somebody recognizes you alone have no clue them, it's strange. However when the film arrives, which will happen a good deal. Right. That's kind of ... I am unsure. I result from somewhat village in England without many individuals living there. It's very private, isolated little place. Which I've found all this is a really different world. So, that's interesting. Was there any hesitation on our part in making use of this role, making that jump so quickly? I didn't even contemplate it. I'm speaking about, to begin with, I buy to accomplish my hobby just like a job. Hey, me too. Right! And what greater privilege will there be than that? To acquire up which i kind of go red-colored-colored when I believe that, "I'm away and off to work." I'm not always prone to work. I'm prone to have a great time, you understand? [Laughs] And doing a few things i enjoy most. Yeah, sure, it's effort sometimes, but, you understand, within the finish throughout your day, it's a few things i enjoy. Or doing this, is, In my opinion, possibly the finest privilege you are able to request. So, yeah, The most effective to accomplish this as extended as you can. What's your chosen Spielberg movie? 'Saving Private Ryan.' Because, In my opinion -- when did that can come out? It absolutely was 1998. It absolutely was '98? So, yeah, I used to be eight or nine if the showed up in this area. I don't think you are made to watch 'Saving Private Ryan' when you're eight or nine. Well, exactly. From the being about twelve once getting a VHS copy and watching it in the dark room while using appear lower so my parents would never know. And watching that kind of assisted me go, "I'd like to remain in a movie such as this.In . But your entire day that we read inside the script, the part where I throw a grenade in to a German machine gun -- every man's dream! That scene particularly is comparable to 'Saving Private Ryan.' However don't think this is often a war movie. You understand, there's really just a few major battles. Though, it'll the term "war" inside the title. Yeah, but there are many how war affects people in a really personal level. What there's hardly any is fighting -- or else inside the physical sense. And there is only one major fight scene. This is an excellent major fight scene. Which I usually think that what Steven Spielberg does best is showing an individuals facets of the story. In the event you show someone the levels of individuals destroyed inside the first World War, it kind of does not necessarily mean a good deal. You won't ever interact with that. In the event you show someone the story of just one person because war, you'll be able to relate and psychologically communicate with that. Now in 'The Railway Guy,' you're jumping ahead to World War Ii. Yeah, right. Essentially keep on doing war movies it may be amazing. Again, the casting director who cast me in 'War Horse' provided amazing advice: to keep coping with people you'll probably study on. To be capable of move from Steven Spielberg to coping with Take advantage of Fiennes those like Colin Firth -- people I am in a position to just idolize and continue to take as much from as you can. I guess you mean literally "idolize" with Colin Firth. He's a very tall guy. Yeah! [Laughs] And he's a enjoyable guy. "I have been charged with cooperating using the government or even the establishment to produce that fig leaf."Israeli films with gay subject material aren't, however, limited to secular styles."Eyes AvailableInch (Einayim Petuhot), which won the John Schlesinger Award in the 2010 Palm Springs Film Festival and also the Grand Prix in the 2009 Ghent Film Festival, is all about a married ultra-Orthodox father and husband suffering from his passion for any more youthful guy. Restraining Order Granted Against Terrence Howard
First Published: December 6, 2011 11:37 PM EST Credit: Getty Images LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Terrence Howard attends a screening of Precious in NYC, Nov. 5, 2009Terrence Howard was ordered Tuesday to stay 100 yards (90 meters) away from his estranged wife after she claimed the Oscar-nominated actor repeatedly threatened and hit her during their marriage. The star denies the allegations. Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon granted the stay-away order sought by Michelle Howard after she filed a lengthy declaration alleging abuse began within a week of the couples January 2010 marriage. Michelle Howard filed for divorce a year later. The restraining order remains in effect until a Jan. 17 court hearing. In a text message last week, she claims Howard, 42, has repeatedly hit her and threatened her. She stated in a sworn declaration that she is in constant fear of Howard and has chronic health issues caused by the actors treatment. Howard in his own sworn declaration wrote that he has never threatened his wife and that she has repeatedly vowed to ruin his reputation and release private details. I live in constant fear of Michelles endeavors to ruin my reputation; even providing this declaration may well lead to my being subjected to a paparazzi blitz which would not be good for my career, Howard wrote. Michelle Howard wrote that Howardhas hit her several times and threatened to throw her from a hotel balcony in South Africa last year. She included a text message she said he sent to her on Thursday in which he begged her not to pursue the divorce and threaten his career, ending the missive, I cant promise how I will respond. Howard wrote in his filing that he immediately followed up the message with another text stating that he wasnt threatening her. Despite my efforts to remove myself physically from (Howards) life, his periodic mood swings from anger, threats and violence to statements of love and requests for reconciliation continue and have not subsided, she wrote. Howard appeared in the first Iron Man film and received an Oscar nomination in 2005 for his role in Hustle and Flow. His attorney Christian Markey III did not immediately return an email message seeking comment. Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Fox Searchlight's The Descendants and Martha Marcy May Marlene lead the field with three nods each, including best feature and best ensemble, the highest-profile categories. (Focus Features' Beginners also registered in those two.) The most interesting race to watch, however, is the one for best breakthrough actor, in which fast-rising stars Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) will duke it out along with lower-profile competitors Harmony Santana (Gun Hill Road) and Jacob Wysocki (Terri). Five of the category's last seven winners went on to score Oscar nods. Finally, career tributes will be presented to four people with stakes in this year's Oscar race, and who have a great opportunity to make a strong impression before a lot of industry insiders with a good speech tonight: actor Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), actress Charlize Theron (Young Adult), director David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method), and Fox Filmed Entertainment chairman and CEO Tom Rothman. VIDEO: THR's Directors Roundtable 2011 Tomorrow morning, Film Independent -- which, like IFP, is dedicated to celebrating independent films -- will announce the nominees for this year's Independent Spirit Awards, or "Indie Spirit Awards," which will be presented the night before the Oscars. A nod can provide a big boost to a little film, and this year's top contenders include the aforementioned The Descendants, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Beginners, and Like Crazy. Other films that have a shot at being recognized in one category or another -- and could really benefit from a moment in the spotlight -- include A Better Life, Drive, Higher Ground, Margin Call, Pariah, Rampart, Shame, Take Shelter, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and Win Win. Finally, tomorrow afternoon, the NY Film Critics Circle will vote to determine the winners of its 77th annual awards, and will Tweet its decisions as they are made. The group recently stirred up controversy by moving its voting date ahead of that of the National Board of Review (which has historically been the first critics' group to announce), forcing some studios to screen their films for NYFCC voters even earlier than usual, and precluding at least one not-yet-finished film,Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, from being considered. It's incredibly hard to predict what the NYFCC will choose to celebrate, since their arcanevoting process often leads to stalemates that force compromise choices, as well as concerted efforts to spread recognition amongst many films. NYFCC choices also have limited value in terms of predicting what the Academy will do: although the two bodies have chosen the same best picture only 28 times, the NYFCC's winners in that category and the acting categories are almost always at least nominated for Oscars. This year, I gather from my sources that The Descendants, The Artist, Melancholia, Moneyball, We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Iron Lady, The Tree of Life, and Drive are particularly popular with many NYFCC members, so look for all or most of them to be represented in one category or another. My guesses: The Descendants, The Artist, or The Tree of Life for best picture; Alexander Payne (The Descendants) or Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life) for best director; George Clooney (The Descendants) or Jean Dujardin (The Artist) for best actor; Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia), or Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) for best actress; Albert Brooks (Drive) or Christopher Plummer (Beginners) for best supporting actor; and Jessica Chastain (The Help and/or and/or Take Shelter and/or The Tree of Life and/or Coriolanus) or Octavia Spencer (The Help) for best supporting actress. Borrowing a page from the movie marketers' playbook, the Democratic National Committee on Monday released a 30-second TV spot-a "trailer-style" video titled "Mitt v. (The longer "treatment" includes sound bites from Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Ronald Reagan.) PHOTOS: 10 Hollywood Players That Will Make a Difference in the 2012 Elections The anti-Romney videos underscore two important things about the Obama campaign: It clearly views the former Massachusetts governor as the president's chief foe, and the campaign is unafraid to use Hollywood-style promotional tactics (along with entertainment industry money) to fight him. The video seems likely to get an additional bounce from its timing, since much of the mainstream news media's current coverage of Romney is focusing on how he's attacking his surging rival Newt Gingrich for taking a position on undocumented immigrants that the former Massachusetts governor once advocated himself. Because context, Liberty Media chairman John Malone mentioned Thursday morning's news in the mixture of both of these monitoring stocks gives his firm "more flexibility" to pursue any path that seems smart and opportunistic. Starz Boss Chris Albrecht earlier inside the day had defined future focus areas for his firm and guaranteed growth. "Starz remains getting a great run," Maffei mentioned within the finish in the event, highlighting that clients and operating profit are actually trending greater lately. Next season though, the final outcome will most likely take "a breather" because of the conclusion from the Netflix deal, possibly offset by another digital deal, and possibilities in original programming, he mentioned. 2013 and 2014 will probably be "betterInch given Starz have a look at digital deals and possibilities in original shows, Maffei mentioned. Several media and entertainment companies, through which Liberty Media is certainly a trader, gave bullish presentations with a Wall Street crowd in the firm's annual investor day. "We are searching toward a very strong 2012," Sirius XM Radio Boss Mel Karmazin told traders. Next season will dsicover revenue growth, lower interest expense reducing capital costs, which will all raise the conclusion. Karmazin mentioned the business's board will just decide how to operate the firm's free earnings, signaling smart purchases are more unlikely since they're nearly impossible to find, and for that reason returns of money to traders certainly are a much more likely option. Experts have suggested stock buybacks may be inside the cards for Sirius. Jennifer Saunders Plans Ab Great Film
Edina & Patsy possess a hangover. Surprise!Though Absolutely Fabulous continues to be effective for a long time, creator Jennifer Saunders has to date opposed the temptation to transfer the format towards the giant screen. However, based on Deadline, she may be near obtaining a film together. Absolutely Fabulous has resided something of the charmed existence, being a hit in 1992 and running then for five series, before retiring using its recognition levels still running fairly high. It returned in 2001 for an additional four series, despite the fact that the reception wasn't as rapturous, still it got decent rankings. The plot, for individuals who've never looked ay a chapter, involves PR guru Edina (Saunders), who functions just like a spoiled teen, much towards the dismay of straight-arrow daughter Saffron (Julia Sawalha). Edina's assisted in her own quest for a wild lifestyle by sex-mad drink-craving Patsy (Joanna Lumley). You will find no solid plans in position at this time, though BBC Films is wishing she'll write the script the coming year once she's finished focusing on the (shudder) Spice Women musical. The film's plot will apparently begin with Edina and Patsy getting out of bed hung in the deserted yacht possessed with a magnate with little memory of the items happened with no mobile signal. Although it does not seem the same as these were on vacation, you have to question why nearly every United kingdom sitcom picks an overseas destination in mind because of its film version...

We Are Not Cool Enough for an Absolutely Fabulous Movie
Jennifer Saunders will begin scripting a feature version of her classic BBC series Absolutely Fabulous sometime next year, after she finishes work on the Spice Girls stage musical Viva Forever in London. Deadline reports that Ab Fab: The Movie will open with “Patsy and Edina waking up hungover in the empty drifting yacht of an oligarch in the middle of the ocean. Even worse, their cellphones can’t get a signal.” I’m torn — I want to be excited that the movie’s happening, but I can’t shake the paralyzing sadness of Ab Fab’s most recently aborted revival. Roseanne famously tried to revive Absolutely Fabulous with Carrie Fisher and Barbara Carrera in an American version years ago, but I’m still lamenting the missed opportunity of Kristen Johnston and Kathryn Hahn as Eddy and Patsy in 2009’s aborted stateside TV remake. Look at that beautiful potential. How can you not root for Kristen Johnston? We don’t have many 6’0 character actresses with two Emmys left. Laurie Metcalf is not that tall. Furthermore, don’t you sometimes stop and wonder why the U.S. can’t make Ab Fab-y shows like Kath & Kim successful? Because Kath & Kim was funny, dammit. I saw Molly Shannon on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently, and she’s funnier than the entire ABC lineup right now. For our fix of loopy women, we have to turn to lazy, humdrum sitcoms like 2 Broke Girls, which is pretty much a crime. Oh well. Let’s enjoy this Ab Fab reel and disappear into the past. A Garage Entertainment discharge of a TMG Media production in colaboration with KM MVMNT. (Worldwide sales: Odin's Eye Entertainment, Sydney.) Created by Macario P Souza, Michael Lawrence, Sue Masters. Executive producers, Lawrence, Nicholas Prepare, John Mossop. Directed, edited by Macario P Souza. Compiled by P Souza, Michael Lawrence, Sue Masters. With: Mark Mathews, Richie Vaculik, Kelly Slater, Lucia Perrotta, Mick Fanning, Bruce Irons, B.J. Penn, Mike Owens, Jarrod MacAskill, Joel Edgerton. Narrator: Joel Edgerton.Coming back towards the viewers and party creatures he profiled while co-helming "Bra Boys" with Sunny Abberton, Aussie documaker Macario P Souza provides a lot more honest and technically polished leads to "Fighting Fear." Centered on the long term friendship between professional large-wave driver Mark Mathews and famous Ufc competitor Richie Vaculik, this raw study of the duo's professional levels and severe personal lows is not likely to exchange "Bra Boys" because the greatest grossing non-Imax Aussie docu ever, but should perform strongly on its November. 10 domestic rollout. Abundance of quality extreme-sports footage will boost offshore ancillary prospects. Read inside a conversational tone by Aussie thesp Joel Edgerton, the docu opens with a history of Maroubra, a Sydney beach-side suburb having a strong working-class tradition and the place to find the Bra Boys, a surfing brotherhood feared in certain quarters and respected in other people. People of this fraternity and aged within their late 20s, Mathews and Vaculik have brought lives that may came completely from a gritty boxing drama. Both from damaged houses, the 2 began palling around together as youthful boys and were drawn to the "courageous around the waves and courageous in existence" Bra Boys credo. Mathews found instant fame and fortune by finding after which riding massive breaks at Shipstern's Bluff in Tasmania, and following track of regular victories around the lucrative large-wave circuit. Vaculik developed a desire for mixed martial-arts fighting and rapidly rose to world bantamweight title contender within the UFC ranks. In the peak of the careers, both get involved in ugly alcohol-fueled brawls and were lucky to flee without jail sentences. The level for Mathews, compelling him to consider stock, would be a terrible wipeout that created mental trauma he's since overcome to reclaim prominence within the sport. For Vaculik, it had been re-creating ties with Lucia Perrotta, the ex-g.f. who left him consequently of his hard-hanging out ways and whose testimony supplies a welcome and informative femme perspective around the effects of extreme male connecting. Questioned together after being shot for 3 tumultuous years, Mathews and Vaculik are pleasant even when a lot of their past behavior isn't. Whilst not the kinds to obtain deep and significant, both speak honestly with sincere regret for that damage triggered by dark sections within their lives. Their properly situated flashes of self-deprecating Aussie humor goes lower well with auds everywhere. Fleshed by helping cover their looks by surfing best, including 11-time world champion Kelly Slater, the docu finishes with an upbeat observe that shows how Mathews and Vaculik have forfeit none of the lust-for-existence mojo, since they understand how to harness it correctly. Japanese auds look for escape
'From On Poppy Hill'Following the triple problems of March 11 -- 9. earthquake, massive tsunami and reactor meltdowns in the Fukushima nuclear plant -- many within the Japanese biz stated audience needs would change, with a smaller amount of an appetite for dark, violent photos and much more interest in cheerful, beneficial ones.Distribs rejiggered their skeds, dumping photos with disaster styles as well as footage (goodbye China's earthquake epic "Aftershock" and Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter"), while helmers rewrote scripts (Yoji Yamada with "Tokyo, japan Family") or pressed back projects that did not fit the present mood (Takashi Kitano's follow-as much as his bloody gang epic "Outrage").However the year's B.O. through September shows little proof of radical change, especially at the very top. The organization also noted the impact from the problems continues to be under feared, with summer time box office rebounding strongly when anticipated energy cuts unsuccessful to materialize.Meanwhile, within the indie sector, a lengthy decline in auds for arthouse fare has forced some small-to-medium indie distribs bankrupt and several indie theater operators either to close their doorways or increase the populist fare for their lineups.Japanese purchasers, however, happen to be busy making deals for indie photos through the fall, with pick-ups such as the Korean meller "Always" (Pony Canyon), the spy thriller "Mess, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" (Gaga) and Philippe Garrel's "That Summer time" (Comstock). One reason behind optimism may be the launch of 12 broadcast satellite channels on March. 1, to become then seven more in March, all using wavelengths freed up through the finish of analog broadcasts last This summer. An American Horror Story Halloween: 5 Tricks and Treats
Denis O'Hare The list of ghosts on American Horror Story keeps growing. Among the formerly warm bodies we added last week: a woman from the 1920s who coaxed her husband, a doctor with a Frankenstein fetish, into performing abortions on starlets; Moira, who was shot by Constance back when Moira looked like Alexandra Breckenridge; and Hayden, whom Larry murdered because he apparently wants to help Ben not just out of the house but with all of his problems. (Oh come on, you know that's not the last you've seen of her!) American Horror Story: Connie Britton answers burning questions Unfortunately for the Harmons, Halloween has arrived, the day when the dead are allowed to make like they're living. In the first hour of a two-part Halloween event (Wednesday, 10/9c, FX), series bosses Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck are handing out both tricks and treats. Here's what to expect: TREAT: Infantata, explained! Someone will explain the history of that turn-of-the-century demon baby lurking in the Harmons' basement. Series star Connie Britton told TVGuide.com that it - and she calls it "the Infantata" - just might be the victim of "something really terrible" that happened in the house. That would be an understatement. Will American Horror Story be a hit for FX? TRICK: The return of Rubber Man - or is it an imposter? Our shiny enigmatic friend will turn up not once, but twice for Halloween. He'll even unmask! But is it the same person donning the gimp suit both times? TREAT: Vivien's baby checks in! Just like Bella and Edward's fast-growing, gnawing-on-mommy-from-the-inside bundle of joy, Vivien's little guy is going to start demanding some attention in painful ways. (Yes, that is a reference to Twilight. American Horror Story is supposed to be an homage to all things scary, right?) It's only been eight weeks, and the baby should be the size of a peanut, but a super scary ultrasound will show otherwise. TRICK. Three people will die. So every episode thus far has begun with a murder - the Halloween killings don't all take place in the past. Death will even claim a pretty major character (who has been in every episode so far) in a pretty gruesome way. In a twist, it will be pretty sad as well... The 6 things that inspired American Horror Story TREAT. Hayden isn't over! ...On the other hand, death doesn't mean the end. Just ask Moira. Ben may have built that lovely gazebo over the body of his other baby mama, but on Halloween, the dead get to walk amongst the living. Hayden's pissed and she's going to do a lot more than walk. Check out a sneak peek from Wednesday's episode. Why does Larry suddenly want money? What does he need that costs a thousand bucks? American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX. The network will air a marathon of the series' first four episodes, starting Monday at 10/9c. What has been the biggest scare so far? Do you think the Harmons will make it out of that house alive?

'Batman & Robin' Director Joel Schumacher Wanted to Do 'The Dark Knight'
There only three certainties in life: death, taxes and 'Batman & Robin' being the second-worst superhero movie ever. (Congratulations, Shaq; 'Kazaam' still wins that dubious honor!) 'B&R' director Joel Schumacher is doing press rounds for the upcoming Nicolas Cage-Nicole Kidman thriller 'Trespass,' and when talk in a recent sit-down with IFC turned to his superhero oeuvre, Schumacher was surprisingly honest. "Sequels are made for one reason. Because 'Batman Forever' was an unexpected sensation, and the second-biggest grossing movie for the whole year, and everyone made so much money out of 'Batman Forever,' it was always, 'more, more more.'" Which is how you get to rubber suits with prominent nipple placement. Schumacher says he's proud of 'Batman & Robin' but does regret one thing: that Warner Bros. didn't ask him to also direct 'The Dark Knight.' Pause here for fanboy head explosions. "I think I'm the most envious of Chris Nolan because he got to do 'The Dark Knight' -- and that's the one I begged to do as my second Batman film," Schumacher told IFC. "I wanted to do a whole other thing, because we had kind of re-invented franchise with Val [Kilmer as Batman [in 'Batman Forever'] and it was a very young, sexy, and much less expensive movie. We brought in Robin and I wanted to make 'The Dark Knight' desperately, but the studio didn't want that and it's their money and they're my bosses." For his part, Schumacher thinks the aforementioned Kilmer is the best onscreen Batman. "I thought he looked great in the costume, and I thought he brought a depth to the role." OK, then!
