HI. I'd like to buy a new bass. Any suggestions ? What kind of wood ? Alder ? Mahogany ? Active ? Thx?

Any recommended brand ? Most of basses below $400 are made of
basswood, which I didn't find a good comment for. So maybe the price
range I'd need to see is between $800 - $1300. I'm a 5 string bass
player. Suggestions ?? Thank you !
